downtown york, pa has come such a long way in its revitalization movement. restaurants, boutiques, art galleries and more are thriving as community members continue to work together to make this place the attraction is deserves to be. last weekend, artists came together to give royal square an incredible collection of murals that stop you in your tracks. this past fourth of july weekend is one i will never forget. my best friend asked me to MARRY him! it was so surprising and beautiful and perfectly planned out, i could not be more excited to begin the rest of my life with my new FIANCÉ!
last week, i got to travel with my best friend on our first real vacation together. we flew to houston, tx to visit her brother. our 5 days were filled with amazing breakfasts & dinners as well as endless laughs & carter cuddles!
after what i SWEAR was the longest four years of my young life, i finally graduated from college. it is such a freeing, yet frightening feeling to be thrown out into the world. thankfully, i was given the opportunity to work full time with an incredible company, relieving my job search jitters. i think the best part about graduating college is that from this point on, i'm not expected to do anything else. there are no societal standards that i feel pressured to live up to. from this point on - i get to just do me. i'm going to continue to set goals for myself & achieve them at my own pace. stay tuned to see what my post-grad life turns into :)
this past saturday, i was able to have a lovely breakfast with my bff, marissa, at rachel's creperie in lancaster, pa // cute breakfast places are the perfect spot to catch up. check it out sometime!
it's a little eerie that it's february 24 & 73 degrees today. nonetheless, i was lucky & had off from work & classes. i spent the morning at the local farmer's market buying fruits & veggies, visited my coach for a second, then came home & played around with my buys. now i'm doing homework (sad face), but this morning/afternoon was good for my soul!
The place I work for went on a fun trip Wednesday & I got to go along! This is a small collection of my favorite photos. Our first stop was Terrain at Styers. Lucky me - a free trip to my favorite place! On the way there it was a little cloudy, but as I started walking around, the sun came right out! I was obsessed with the light coming through the old greenhouse windows. Our final destination was Longwood Gardens, home to both native & exotic plants, along with acres upon acres of gardens. It is definitely a must-see if you have never gone there! My favorite spot at Longwood is in the Conservatory - home to the "Silver Garden." Here you can find an endless array of succulents & towering cacti. The orchid room is a definite go-to. They are in bloom year-round!
Joey and I got the chance to sneak away to our favorite place this weekend. We were searching for adventure, but neither of us knew where that search would take us. Excited to see the changing of the leaves, I was disappointed to wake up Saturday morning to rain. Never the less, Joey cooked us breakfast and after we ate, we headed off to find adventure. We decided to take the truck for a drive over the mountain. The first part of the ride was uneventful; looking at the sights, taking photos and driving through mud puddles. But then...we got lost. We had taken a random turn or two off of the main path on the mountain. Soon, we came into territory that wasn't so familiar. So, using our bad judgement, we took a few left turns that put us in the entirely wrong valley. When we passed a sign that welcomed us back into Potter County, we started to become concerned. After driving in the wrong direction (for a long time), we stopped and asked directions from an officer at a state park. Maps in hand, we hopped back in the truck, expecting to be back in the cozy cabin in half an hour. Well, that didn't happen. All of a sudden, warning lights on the dash were going off and Joey threw the truck in park, turned it off and jumped out. A belt had fallen off (don't ask me which one), and it was still raining. While Joey was working under the hood, the rain began to pour. Knowing what he needed to do, but not knowing how he was going to do it, Joey was frustrated. Luckily, a park ranger (we later learned his name was Travis), pulled up to give us a hand. Travis offered us a ride back to Kettle Creek State Park, where Joey was able to use a computer to find which tool he needed in order to fix his truck. Travis grabbed the tool and we were back on our way. Once back, Joey and Travis used all of their muscle to get the truck working. Finally, they got everything in place. After a few hours of being lost, and Joey being soaking wet, we finally found our way back to the cabin safe and sound. The rest of our night was spent driving around looking for elk. We were about to give up, when suddenly, on our way back we noticed a truck coming the opposite direction almost stopped on the road. We looked down over the hillside, across some railroad tracks, and there stood three elk! Joey pulled the truck over and we jumped out to get a closer look. As we stood there, we could hear one of the elk and another herd of elk down the road communicating with each other. What an incredible sound! Seeing this elk made our adventure complete. We headed back to the cabin to relax the rest of the evening. Although our relaxing getaway wasn't full of the relaxation we had expected, I would not have changed this trip at all. Looking back, every little thing that happened in those two days made me love Joey even more. When the truck broke down, he didn't flip out and he didn't get angry. Instead, he analyzed the situation and figured out how to fix it. Also, getting lost never scared us. We were together and that was all that mattered, whether we were in Cameron, Clinton or Potter County (we didn't know)! Nothing compares to the feeling of going home. I've been living outside of my childhood home for about a year now. Although I love my independent life and sense of freedom, I miss the comforts of a life I knew for twenty years.
