if you're like me, the winter weather doesn't show any love to your skin - especially your lips. doing a simple, natural lip scrub is a great way to get rid of dead skin and add some moisture where you really need it. last night i threw together a 5 minute scrub that i'm already obsessed with! what you'll need: - brown sugar (to texture) - 1 tbs honey - 1 tsp mineral oil what to do: i used a shot glass to mix my ingredients, because you don't need very much. i mixed the honey and oil, then added enough brown sugar until the texture became solid, rather than runny (adding too much mineral oil will cause the scrub to become too oily and you won't get the scrubbing consistency you need). simply apply the mixture to your lips and scrub gently. you don't need to wash off the scrub, just lick your lips! you'll feel refreshed and moisturized. enjoy! (feel free to substitute brown sugar for white sugar and/or mineral oil for olive oil)

i love to change things around & refresh my living environment. i have plants, but tend to get bored with where they sit or the pot in which they live. last evening, i decided to give one of my first plants (ever) a new home. this bird's nest snake plant has survived years of neglect (peep the yellowing leaves). if you have a black thumb, but would love to own a low-maintenance house plant, this hardy little guy is your go-to!
this past saturday, i was able to have a lovely breakfast with my bff, marissa, at rachel's creperie in lancaster, pa // cute breakfast places are the perfect spot to catch up. check it out sometime!
it's a little eerie that it's february 24 & 73 degrees today. nonetheless, i was lucky & had off from work & classes. i spent the morning at the local farmer's market buying fruits & veggies, visited my coach for a second, then came home & played around with my buys. now i'm doing homework (sad face), but this morning/afternoon was good for my soul!
sunday fun day - elk neck state park, md. ---- 10/10 highly recommend visiting! thanks to my sis and mama for snapping photos for me, you guys are great.
finals & classes are finally over for a couple of weeks. i've had the luxury of baking twice this week! here's a quick & easy recipe for yummy sugar cookies that i promise you will disappear quickly!
(recipe has been doubled in these photos - i am taking them to a family party tonight!)
The place I work for went on a fun trip Wednesday & I got to go along! This is a small collection of my favorite photos. Our first stop was Terrain at Styers. Lucky me - a free trip to my favorite place! On the way there it was a little cloudy, but as I started walking around, the sun came right out! I was obsessed with the light coming through the old greenhouse windows. Our final destination was Longwood Gardens, home to both native & exotic plants, along with acres upon acres of gardens. It is definitely a must-see if you have never gone there! My favorite spot at Longwood is in the Conservatory - home to the "Silver Garden." Here you can find an endless array of succulents & towering cacti. The orchid room is a definite go-to. They are in bloom year-round!
Many people who live in my area believe there's nothing to do and nothing to see. Think again! Just get out and explore!
"Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go." - Unknown Today is the last day of October. I feel a sense of calm and reflection. We are almost into the season of holiday baking, eating and endless parties. Although that can become stressful at times, I'm going to attempt to savor each moment I am in for the rest of the year. Autumn is my favorite season because it allows me to wind down and realize everything I have accomplished throughout the year. (What I have not accomplished is figuring out how to get Lewes to stop constantly barking.) I try to take this time to really look at and appreciate the beauty around me. There is such life in decay. Even in our own lives, as we get older, we gain more opportunities to grow. I've found that there is something in every day that teaches me more about life and about myself. Tomorrow, I will welcome November because it begins a season of family gathering. I have a lot planned for this month and I am excited to end October knowing I have so much to anticipate with all of the people I love.
I was tired of eating the same breakfast every morning, so this morning I got creative. For the past few mornings I have been eating breakfast sandwiches on the go. This morning I didn't have to be anywhere right away, so I decided to get creative. I really like breakfast dishes where all of the ingredients are all mixed together. I threw the eggs (first), ham and cheese in a skillet to cook, while toasting the bread. Once done, I chopped it all up and threw everything into a bowl together. I prefer not to eat plain, so I sprinkled a bit of rosemary on my dish for flavor.
Delicious little breakfast with simple kitchen ingredients! Have more ideas for "dump breakfast?" Leave me a comment! :) |
