Joey and I got the chance to sneak away to our favorite place this weekend. We were searching for adventure, but neither of us knew where that search would take us. Excited to see the changing of the leaves, I was disappointed to wake up Saturday morning to rain. Never the less, Joey cooked us breakfast and after we ate, we headed off to find adventure. We decided to take the truck for a drive over the mountain. The first part of the ride was uneventful; looking at the sights, taking photos and driving through mud puddles. But then...we got lost. We had taken a random turn or two off of the main path on the mountain. Soon, we came into territory that wasn't so familiar. So, using our bad judgement, we took a few left turns that put us in the entirely wrong valley. When we passed a sign that welcomed us back into Potter County, we started to become concerned. After driving in the wrong direction (for a long time), we stopped and asked directions from an officer at a state park. Maps in hand, we hopped back in the truck, expecting to be back in the cozy cabin in half an hour. Well, that didn't happen. All of a sudden, warning lights on the dash were going off and Joey threw the truck in park, turned it off and jumped out. A belt had fallen off (don't ask me which one), and it was still raining. While Joey was working under the hood, the rain began to pour. Knowing what he needed to do, but not knowing how he was going to do it, Joey was frustrated. Luckily, a park ranger (we later learned his name was Travis), pulled up to give us a hand. Travis offered us a ride back to Kettle Creek State Park, where Joey was able to use a computer to find which tool he needed in order to fix his truck. Travis grabbed the tool and we were back on our way. Once back, Joey and Travis used all of their muscle to get the truck working. Finally, they got everything in place. After a few hours of being lost, and Joey being soaking wet, we finally found our way back to the cabin safe and sound. The rest of our night was spent driving around looking for elk. We were about to give up, when suddenly, on our way back we noticed a truck coming the opposite direction almost stopped on the road. We looked down over the hillside, across some railroad tracks, and there stood three elk! Joey pulled the truck over and we jumped out to get a closer look. As we stood there, we could hear one of the elk and another herd of elk down the road communicating with each other. What an incredible sound! Seeing this elk made our adventure complete. We headed back to the cabin to relax the rest of the evening. Although our relaxing getaway wasn't full of the relaxation we had expected, I would not have changed this trip at all. Looking back, every little thing that happened in those two days made me love Joey even more. When the truck broke down, he didn't flip out and he didn't get angry. Instead, he analyzed the situation and figured out how to fix it. Also, getting lost never scared us. We were together and that was all that mattered, whether we were in Cameron, Clinton or Potter County (we didn't know)!
